MiniModes 2025 Photonics School

MiniModes 2025 is the fourth edition of a fully-funded, student summer conference that will be held from 30 August to 1 September 2025 in European Centre for Geological Education in Chęciny, Poland. Organized by the Student Association of Optics and Photonics (KNOF) at the University of Warsaw, the event is tailored for young researchers in optics, photonics and related fields. Our main goal is to brings together students to connect, talk with professionals, and create an environment for exploration of possible career paths in science and industry.

Why should you join us?

Scientific Talks

Exciting talks from leading scientists and professionals from photonics industry and related fields. The topics will cover cutting-edge research, emerging trends, as well as soft skills like project management and navigating career (see Speakers).

Poster Session

Each participant will show their work during a 3-minute flash talk and a poster session. It’s a great opportunity to practice communicating your research, receive valuable feedback and spark new collaborations.

Beyond the Lab

Join in on additional activities such as excursions to nearby landmarks. These will refresh your mind, foster conversations and give new perspectives – scientific and personal (see Programme).

Industry Networking

Connect with industry representatives and researchers during coffee breaks and talks from industry partners. You will learn about career options and open doors for future internships.

Social Connections

Take a brake from formal program during social evening and bonfires. The relaxed setting is perfect for meeting new people from your branch.

Participation

The conference is fully-funded. There is no conference fee. Transport from Warsaw to the conference venue and back, as well as food and accommodation, are provided free of charge.

MiniModes 2025 is open for you if:

  • You’re a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD student
  • You’re ready to present a poster showcasing your own research in optics, photonics or related field.

And, of course, during the conference you’ll need to be active, ask many questions and share your passion with others!

The Venue

European Centre for Geological Education affiliated with University of Warsaw is a modern conference centre with auditoriums and residence buildings. Built in a repurposed quarry, it is located in a beautiful region of Świętokrzyskie Mountains. During the stay you will get to see nearby 13th-century castle in Chęciny and a karstic cave with remarkable dripstone decoration.
